| Brandon Marshall set to join the Jets? | |
It appears the tumultuous offseason in Denver may not be over for the poor Broncos. After watching him demand a trade, then clown around at practice before suspending him, the Broncos may finally be ready to trade wide receiver Brandon Marshall.
The Jets are reportedly pushing hard to acquire Marshall from the Broncos. It’s unclear what Denver would receive in return, but a conditional pick that improves based on the Jets/Marshall’s performance would make a lot of sense. It doesn’t really matter what a Marshall deal would do for Denver; 2009 is set up to be a nightmare no matter what. However, it’s certainly intriguing to ponder Marshall’s potential impact on the Jets. Some people would think baby T.O. could be a team cancer but, as is the case with T.O., he likely wouldn’t cause trouble in his first season with a new team, as he’d be happy to be free from his previous situation. A Marshall acquisition could actually seriously bolster New York’s playoff hopes and give Jets fans a jump on their Super Bowl betting. Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez still wouldn’t be a sure thing, but he’d have a better group of receivers than Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco had last season. Marshall and Jerricho Cotchery would be a fine top two; Dustin Keller is an athletic young tight end; Leon Washington is a good pass catcher out of the backfield, as is Thomas Jones. Couple that with an emerging defense under new head coach Rex Ryan and the Jets would be ready to make some noise. Gang Green fans have to cross their fingers over this one; a Marshall deal could affect their season as much as Jay Cutler’s arrival in Chicago. |
