NFL Betting – Key NFL Numbers Should Not Be Overlooked

With the Super Bowl betting weekend right around the corner representing the most popular weekend of play on a single event, it represents the perfect time to discuss the keys to betting on the NFL. While factors such as the two teams, injuries, trends, home-field advantage and so on are all significant, there are also key numbers that players have to be aware of just as much as everything else when playing their wager. Key numbers indicate the most common margins of victory in the NFL and can reveal a lot about what the pay head bookies are looking for the public to do.

Three points is the most common final in football for obvious reasons, with no other final even coming close in terms of frequency. Seven is another common number to be played, with other key totals including four, six, and 10. About 16-percent of games fall on the number three compared to eight percent of games with a final of seven. When an NFL line is very close to any of these common numbers, it is likely that the bookie is just begging for action on the other side. For example, if the odds for a game are listed at minus-2.5, then the bookie is hoping to make the line for the favorite more appealing to convince the playing to take them, just the same as it would be for the underdog at minus-3.5.  While this isn’t always how it works out, the numbers are a strong indication of where the money is going, and the key numbers can reveal a lot leading up to the game just the same as factors such as injuries and other trends would.
