Owens still Unemployed

Terrell OwensWide receiver Terrell Owens is still without a job for the 2010 NFL season, and his prospects are not improving. According to NFL.com columnist Vic Carucci, Owens is reportedly asking for a multi-year deal worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $5 million a year. Owens made $6.5 million with the Buffalo Bills in 2009.

Owens is approaching his 37th birthday, and he is becoming known for a few things that tend to turn off NFL general managers. The first is his attitude. Owens has a documented history of disrupting teams, calling out teammates to the media and generally causing a commotion that can become a distraction to teams.

Terrell Owens played Super Bowl XXXIX on a badly injured ankle, but still wound up catching nine passes for 122 yards. However his team, the Philadelphia Eagles, lost that game to the New England Patriots. Owens was quoted in the locker room after the game as saying "Nobody in the world gave me a chance." His team lost, but Owens considered himself a winner. Not exactly a "team player" mentality.

Owens' other problem is that he simply drops passes at key moments. In 2009 Owens dropped nine passes for the Bills, and many of them in critical moments. That is a far cry from the Owens that made an amazing catch for the San Francisco 49ers to beat the Green Bay Packers in the 1998 playoffs.

Owens remains confident that he will find a team to play for in 2010, but as mini-camps start to open around the league his prospects are looking dimmer each day.
