One of the most popular ways to bet on the NFL over the past couple of years is proposition betting, and it is the most common once the postseason gets underway. An NFL proposition bet is a specific bet on one or more aspects of the game, and a list of these “prop” bets is usually reserved for big games such as the primetime slots, and of course, for the playoffs. While they aren’t as simple to keep track of as straight-up bets or parlays, the prop bet can be fun because it takes the game to another level, and allows the players to truly show off their knowledge of the sport.

When it comes to betting on football, whether it is the NFL or at the college level, there are several different kinds of bets that you can make. As is the case with most sports, the straight wager is still an option, although in many games the juice could be really high to discourage sports betting players from veering away from betting on the spread. In these circumstances, such as if the Green Bay Packers were playing the Indianapolis Colts this season, will feature odds near -1200, which means that in order to win just $100 the player would have to rise $1200. Under these circumstances, it makes much more sense to bet the spread, which for a game like the Packers and Colts would likely have a number around minus-14, which means that Green Bay would have to win by at least 14 to cover, which Indianapolis would have to keep the final score within that total.

Sports betting football fans were relieved to hear that the NFL lockout is finally over. On Tuesday, teams were officially allowed to start negotiating with free agents, but they cannot start signing any free agents until Friday at 6:00 PM EST. Teams can engage in trades, use waivers, sign undrafted free agents, sign draft picks and void contracts as of Tuesday. The melee that will be the NFL free agency signing period will start on Friday, but there has already been significant movement and confirmation of some moves that may be a surprise to Vegas football betting fans.

Sports betting fans are getting a little anxious these days as it looks like the NFL and the NFLPA may be on the fast track to a new collective bargaining agreement. The first thing the union needs to do is re-certify, and it plans on doing that today or tomorrow. The players' representatives will then meet to discuss the proposal from the owners and see if common ground has been created.
